Places to Visit in Udaipur: 15 Best Picks for 2026

Here’s my full list of places to visit in Udaipur, ranked in the order I’d actually recommend seeing them if you have two to three days in the city.

1. City Palace Udaipur

City Palace Udaipur is where every trip should start. Different Mewar rulers kept adding to it over roughly four centuries, which is why walking through feels less like touring one building and more like moving through several palaces stitched together, all facing the eastern bank of Lake Pichola.

Timings: 9:30 am to 5:30 pm daily
Entry fee: Around ₹300 for Indians, higher for foreign nationals, with extra charges for the museum sections
My tip: Go early morning. The Mor Chowk with its peacock mosaics gets crowded by mid morning, and the light is far better before 10 am for photos

What I always point out to guests:

• Mor Chowk, the peacock courtyard with glass mosaic work
• Sheesh Mahal, a small mirrored hall that photographs beautifully
• The rooftop terraces with views straight across the lake to Jag Mandir

2. Lake Pichola

This is the quieter, less touristy sibling of Lake Pichola. Locals come here in the evening just to sit by the water, and I actually prefer it for a relaxed, unhurried hour.

Timings: Open through the day, best visited late afternoon
Entry fee: Free to walk around, boat rides cost separately
My tip: Nehru Garden, the island park in the middle of the lake, is a nice stop if you’re traveling with kids

4. Jag Mandir

Jag Mandir sits on its own island in Lake Pichola, and the story I like telling guests is that a young Prince Khurram hid out here after falling out with his father Jahangir, years before he took the name Shah Jahan and built something rather more famous in Agra.

5. Saheliyon Ki Bari

The name loosely means Garden of the Maidens, since it was originally built so the queens and their attendants had somewhere private to walk, away from the more formal palace courtyards. It’s compact, shaded and an easy, quiet break between bigger monuments.

My tip: The fountains here don’t need pumps, they run purely on water pressure, which still amazes most of my guests when I explain it

6. Sajjangarh Palace, the Monsoon Palace

Perched on a hilltop above the city, Sajjangarh started life as a place for the royal family to watch monsoon clouds roll in over the Aravallis, and later doubled as a spot for tracking the weather with early astronomical instruments. It’s one of the most photographed places to visit in Udaipur, mainly for its sunset views over the entire lake system.

7. Jagdish Temple

A short walk from City Palace, I always stop at this 17th century temple even on repeat trips, mostly for the carving work on the outer walls. It’s dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and unlike some monuments on this list, it’s still a working temple rather than something roped off for tourists.

Timings: 5:30 am to 2 pm and 4 pm to 10 pm

My tip: Visit during the evening aarti if your schedule allows, the atmosphere is completely different from a daytime walk through

8. Bagore Ki Haveli

This lakefront haveli dates back to the 18th century and now runs as a cultural venue rather than just sitting there as a museum piece. Out of everything on this list, the evening Dharohar folk dance show here is what my clients message me about afterward the most.

This one’s tucked inside the old Garden Hotel garage, and it’s easy to miss if you don’t already know it’s there. The collection includes cars that once belonged to the Mewar royal family, plus a Rolls Royce that had a cameo in a James Bond film.

My tip: It’s a good rainy day option since it’s fully indoors and takes less than an hour to walk through

10. Shilpgram

This crafts village sits just outside the city, and it pulls together artisans and traditional huts from Rajasthan alongside neighbouring Gujarat and Goa. If your Udaipur trip includes any shopping at all, I’d start the list here rather than in the markets downtown.

Timings: 11 am to 7 pm, closed on Mondays
Entry fee: Around ₹50
My tip: Time your visit around the Shilpgram festival in late December if you can, it’s a completely different, much livelier experience

11. Ambrai Ghat

This is my personal pick for the best free sunset view in the city. You get City Palace, Lake Palace and Jag Mandir all lined up across the water without paying a single rupee.

Timings: Open all day, best at sunset
Entry fee: Free
My tip: There are a few rooftop cafes right behind the ghat if you want to turn the sunset into a proper sit down evening

12. Gulab Bagh

Maharana Sajjan Singh had this laid out generations ago, and it’s grown into the biggest green space in the city, with a small zoo and library tucked inside. Among the quieter Udaipur tourist places, it’s a good slower paced stop if the palace circuit has worn you out.

Timings: 8 am to 8 pm
Entry fee: Around ₹10, separate charge for the zoo
My tip: Go early morning if you want to see it the way locals use it, as a walking and jogging space rather than a tourist stop

13. Karni Mata Temple and Ropeway

This hilltop temple comes with a ropeway ride that gives you a completely different angle on the lakes below. It’s one of the more underrated places to visit in Udaipur, and one of the more underrated things to do in Udaipur too, since most first time visitors skip it entirely.

Timings: Ropeway runs roughly 9 am to 9 pm
Entry fee: Around ₹150 to ₹200 for the ropeway round trip
My tip: Go right before sunset, the ropeway cabin gives you a wide, uninterrupted view as the light changes over the city

14. Doodh Talai Garden and Musical Fountain

A small lakeside park with a musical fountain show in the evening. It’s not a grand monument, but it’s an easy, relaxed stop for families with younger kids.

15. Hathi Pol Market
